Here we go, opening night is upon us and I am writing this to give you a bit of an idea of what to expect. First off, be prepared to walk a distance unless you arrive early. Parking spaces in the upper and lower lots at the park will go quickly. Parking is available across the street in the Drew Steele Center lot and in marked spaces up and down Elm Street.
By 5:45 we would like all of the regular season teams lined up, in uniform behind the left field fence.
We would like the members of the 2018 State Championship teams (North State 10-12) and Tar Heel (9-11) to be on the field ready to receive their awards right at 6:00..
After that we will recognize the families and businesses that contributed to some of the many improvements you will see at the park.
Once the teams all star teams have been honored and the businesses and families that have contributed to the improvements at the park have been recognized we will then have the teams come in one by one through the left field service gate.
I will do a couple of quick presentations once the teams are on the field.
Mr. Fenton of Greenville Recreation and Parks will speak for a few minutes and Mayor Connelly will speak for a few minutes. After that I will dismiss the teams and we will get ready to play.
Now having said all of this the weather forecast for Friday night is not the best. Monitor our Facebook page or www.gllbaseball.com for updates beginning late Friday afternoon.
If the Opening Night Ceremonies and game are rained out here is the plan: The Ceremonies will be cancelled (meaning they will not be made up). The game between RE/MAX and Ross will be rescheduled for Saturday morning at 11am at Elm Street. All of the other teams will get their pictures taken Saturday morning as scheduled off the field near the little scoreboard and the playground. We will work with the ROSS and RE/MAX teams on a make up time for their team pictures.
Hopefully the weather will hold off and we will have a great opening weekend.
